Born Ugly
Beth Goobie
Basic Plot and main characters go here |
The Main character deals with bullying and is seen as ugly by society. She is neglected at home and is always in her sisters shadow as her mother puts her sister on a pedestal. She meets a guy in a secluded place who hows her kindness. Unfortunately, she is not used to this so she doesn't know how to act. She also struggles with alcoholism and has an alcohol dealer. She is also partially caught up in drug trafficking on account of her boss (who doesn't look like a drug dealer). She gets involved on the way to a grocery delivery where she hits the brakes too hard and white powder flies out of the groceries.

Writing Style and the Books Theme
Beth Goobie's writing style is relatable as the book is based somewhat on her experiences. She likes to include her views on psychic things in her writing. Because Goobie was born in the 1950s she uses words that wouldn't be used in modern writing. One word I liked was "toonies" which means money. The books theme is unclear to me but some common occurances are bullying and drug abuse. Shallowness is also a common trait among most of the characters.
